That wasn't in the Special Edition, though, it was yet another change added for the DVD version (along with Hayden Christensen replacing Sebastian Shaw as the spirit of Anakin, which is another fanboy hotbutton).
Er, "that" being worlds from the prequels inserted into the galactic celebration. It already existed in the SE, but with only Tatooine, Bespin and Coruscant (which was included as a sneak peek at Phantom Menace). (Of course the celebration itself is kinda dumb - if the Empire was really that unpopular, you'd think the Rebellion would be a lot bigger. Plus it doesn't stand to reason that just because the Emperor's dead the Imperial power structure just completely falls apart instantly...)
And yeah, that stuff is all pretty lame, but most fans agree it pales in comparison to Greedo shooting first, Han stepping on Jabba's tail, and all the CGI-for-its-own-sake slapstick nonsense that happens on the streets of Mos Eisley.

In the EU, they explain that all the protestors in coruscant were gunned down by stormtroopers soon afterwards (tiananmen square in space), but yeah, it was stupid
