I've heard pretty much nothing but good things about the game. Just from playing for about an hour this morning before class I already know the learning curve on this is going to be steep, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Good thing there's a demo for it though.
If you've heard nothing but good things then you haven't been listening. It's not horrid, but its got serious issues.
I've only spent a small amount of time with a friend's copy of this, but to me, the core mechanics of moving and shooting just feel so wrong in this game that it makes the interesting character/level designs and gameplay quirks somewhat irrelevant.
The aiming probably feels off because it was designed for dual platform. It reminded me a lot of early attempts to bring PC FPS' to consoles, back when they were trying to directly port the controls instead of specifically designing it for consoles. The cross-platform compatibility may be the weak link here regarding that.
Shadowrun is OK, but I like BF2142 better. SNAP!
It's almost like they butchered the PC controls on purpose just so the gamepad users would stand a fair chance in cross-platform play.
Oddly though, from what I've read in a few developer interviews, most of the people working on the game were apparently playing it with the 360 pad (even those who were working on the PC version), so maybe that's why the game seems to work better with a pad than a mouse and keyboard.
