Heavy Rain

I'm really enjoying the hell out of Heavy Rain, and I sincerely believe it's one of the most important video games ever made. But I'll be damned if it isn't one of the buggiest games I've EVER played. It's frozen on me 3 times, and the sound routinely cuts in and out for sometimes as long as 30 seconds at a time. Sometimes I miss out entirely on important dialogue because the sound completely cut out. For a game in development as long as Heavy Rain was, not to mention it was published by Sony, these types of glitches are sort of unacceptable. Anyone else having any weird issues? They're not completely ruining my enjoyment of the game, but they're definitely hindering it.

I think everyone should play this game though. I can't think of another game that's done a better job at making me feel what the game characters are feeling. There were some really really tense scenes for me, and afterwards I actually had to go out and smoke a cigarette because I was so exhausted. It wasn't until I was outside smoking a cig, thinking about what just happened in the game, that I realized no other game has really affected me that strongly. This game is about real people, dealing with real situations and having real emotions. It's also got the best environment/set design of any game ever. I'm so happy this game was made.

I really, really want to try this game, it just seems like something that someone who enjoys games needs to play. I hate having to decide which game I should get instead of the other, but this is at the top of my list with what's out and what I want.

Agreed on both counts. I've had a few freezes (sometimes just a black screen, sometimes a game screen where the music also freezes... VERY LOUDLY), and I had to restart First Encounter four times before I could finally proceed with the chapter. I haven't lost audio yet, but I keep the captions on just in case.

I would agree with your assessment that this might be one of the most important games ever made... in fact, I was thinking the same thing to myself over the weekend. The emotional bond that the game makes with the player is unlike anything I have seen. There are plenty of games with very deep, fleshed-out characters, but they have never felt this "real" before.

That just makes the glitches all the more disappointing. I would rather have waited an extra month or two for the game to be done right.

There's gameplay, it just might not be to your liking. I'm normally not a fan of QTEs, but they pulled it off very well.

Also, Norman is the only character that is horribly voiced.

Very disagreed.

The thing is, they put so much effort into making photorealistic characters and environments, you'd think they'd consider voice acting just as important. Guess not. It's nowhere near a crappy JRPG dub but Quantic Dream has a lot to learn.

I just switch it to French to disguise the annoying voices.

Still looking forward for a patch so I can play some more! I'll definitely be done with Gabriel Knight 2 (better acting in an FMV game, for god's sake) by then.

The little brat the one whose death you don't cause has the most stilted dialogue I've heard yet, although I've only played through the prologue.

I'm not saying there weren't any moments of mild irritability, just that Norman was the only one that was downright bad. He sometimes goes from Australian to South Bostonian to gay in the same fucking sentence. But some of the acting was quite good. Norman's PD counterpart comes to mind. As does the creepy doctor that kills/tries to kill Madison.

Agreed. Looks like I'm not the only one having glitches then. Thanks for the tip about keeping the captions up, I hadn't thought of doing that, but I will from now on. Sure wish they'd patch this game again and resolve some of these issues.

The horrible voice acting keeps me from bonding with these plastic fucks.
