I was wondering that too. I did see some of those new Coleco brand games at Toys R Us a few months ago though. I'm going to look there(there aren't any Target stores in Canada).

The lack of Wonderboy on this thing is criminal, but it does have Kung-Fu Kid so all's good.
I missed the handheld part when I first read this, damn the screen on that thing is tiny. A couple of Aleste games would have sent me scrambling to Target.... *-neo
The screen does look mini but you can hook it up to a TV too.
I beat Black Belt many times back in the day. I cheated like a mothahucker though.
Had a guy trade in a bunch of euro games. Donald Duck, populous, Robocop vs terminator, Sonic 2, and Double Hawk (dude on cover looks like Rambo).
Anyone ever play any of these?
Great thread Neo.
The SMS was the first system I owned, got it for X-mas in 1987. I Wish I kept my original system & games, I regret selling them all off in 1990 when I moved on to the Genesis.
All my friends had the NES back then, but I thought the SMS looked better and I wanted something different at the time.
I believe I got Great baseball & Black Belt with the system, plus of course Hang on & Astro Warrior. I played all those games to death at the time.
Notable games for me back then:
I loved Black Belt,at the time I had never seen such sophisticated boss battles with large graphics in a home game. That one boss battle near the end was dayum hard, as you had to figure out the proper sequence of punches & kickes to finish him off. I had a great sense of satisfaction finally beating that game. Great soundtrack in that game as well, catchy tunes.
Rastan was one of my favorites. I remember picking it up in the Summer of 1989 having never played the arcade game. Played that game to death and was very fond of the great music, & ambience to that game. I still enjoy a good romp through with my master system converter.
Kings Quest was very challenging, frustrating, & fun. I had never played an adventure type game in its style before. I picked it up on a whim one day just knowning it was a computer game series.
One of the few games I put many hours into & failed to complete, got stuck near the very end. I remember the witch locking me up in her little jail in her home, and the maddening feeling of moving around the map & walking into the water and having no chance to avoid it & having to start over, the same thing going up & down stairs, one slight of hand & you fell to your death.
16 years later I sometimes feel like tracking that game down just to finish it.
Although not sure i'd have the patience today to finish it.
Quartet mediocre little shooter that was tough as nails, was proud at the time to finish the game, and I believe I never picked it up after that.
The NINJA- I put many, many hours into this, and I could never find that final scroll, it was so so frustrating. I wanted to see the ending so badly. I remember getting to the end (minus that one scroll) & they'd send me back a couple levels.
I finally gave up looking for that final scroll.
I should track down a copy & finish that game as well.
Anyway, great little system, & like others have said, with the proper 3rd party support & marketing, it had all the tools to rule the 8 bit world back in the late 80's, but was never given the chance.
I was happy with mine though and have great memories, & that suits me just fine.
I’m not sure which Donald game you saw but both are good platformers. Populous seems like a good port but I don’t think it offers anything the 16-bit versions don’t. Like I mentioned on the first page, Robocop vs Terminator is a great action game(lots of slowdown though). Sonic 2 is basically the same game as on Game Gear; it’s good but I like Sonic 1 and Chaos more. Double Hawk is a Cabal-ish game and kind of lame.Quote:
