Actually, modern Mega Man games aren't all that successful. All of the Mega Man Zero games have bombed badly, Powered Up bombed, and the EXE series is only moderately popular (and it also bombed when they tried to bring it to DS and spin it off on GC). Anniversary Collection is the most successful entry in the series in years. And Maverick Hunter X sold 70k it's first month, which while not a big hit, is better than most Mega Man games have fared.
I honestly don't know why they keep pumping out sequels. Mega Man is one of gaming's most well known characters, but unless they do something new with him, the games aren't selling on his name alone. I mean, Sega continues to molest the Sonic franchise, but those games continue to be million sellers, for God knows why.

awesome. i just picked up exe6 today. i hear it's the "last" in the series. i thought it would be fine if it was...i mean...that'd give them time to work on legends 3, right? i don't like the zero series too much...and zx looks interesting but we'll see.
so...this is obviosly in the exe universe. i wonder if it's far into the future of their world or maybe lan at an older age? probably not.
i would like to see more megaman powered up...even though i don't have a psp yet. i mean...the biggest draw for me is playing as the bosses and unlocking all the secret crap. i hope they continue through to megaman 6 at least.
