Heroes on NBC

Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic aren't at odds. His room mate was just an idiot. The Dominican Republic and Haiti are, however, and most Dominicans hate black people because of the stigma of how savage Haiti has become since french deoccupation. Most countries who war over land (they're a split island) usually don't like one another that much.

Also as a bonus piece of trivia the border between Haiti and The Dominican Republic was used by Al Gore in An Inconvenient Truth to show how terrible deforestation is. He, however, failed to mention that it was actually the french fuckers who took all the haitian wood for their antique furniture and buildings and isn't because of terrible Haitian laws.

I don't recall a war between the two. But I don't know the history of both countries off by heart, at any rate. Maybe they all killed one another at some point. But most Dominicans I meet are more preoccupied with hating on Haitians than anything else.

Just watched Season 1 on DVD. The first 5 or 6 episodes were amazing, followed by a giant lull for 10 episodes or so, then it picked up again leading up to the end. Some questions:

1. Why was Peter destined to all of a sudden lose control of his power and go nuclear in the middle of New York? He showed in the past that he could control it. How did Linderman and Peter's Mom know he was going to go nuclear at that exact time?

2. If he's invincible due to the healing factor then what's to say he won't just blow up again in a populated area after Nathan flew him away?

3. Why didn't he just use Nathan's power to fly himself away?

4. Sylar owns Parkman when he shoots at him out of nowhere yet Sylar can't do anything against Hiro when Hiro yells at him and charges?

5. The "you've got heart, all that matters is love" speech that Shaft gave Peter was fucking awful. Whoever wrote it should be fired yesterday.

6. They never explained how Sylar takes people's powers exactly. They said he studies the brains and alters his DNA, but how does a lower middle class watch repair guy alter his own DNA? If it's that easy to steal powers why doesn't The Company just make a thousand Hatians?

7. How does blowing up half of New York serve a greater good (as Linderman claimed)? They were clearly ripping off Watchmen, but in Watchmen destroying a chunk of New York and killing millions was part of a fake alien invasion that ended the cold war by uniting the world against a common enemy. What purpose does it serve here?

8. If a brain injury prevents the healing power from working (which is why Claire was going to shoot Peter in the head before Nathan flew him away) how exactly is Peter going to heal from being at the center of a nuclear blast? His brain would be vaporized.

1. I'm sure we'll cover that next season. And I'm betting someone in that group could see the future. In fact I think it was the old black guy that could. Not sure though. And it wasn't entirely destiny. People were manipulating things to try to get that specific future.

6. His mutant power is being able to understand and fix things. Fixing things includes altering himself.

7. It was to make Nathan president. Remember the future episode? That was the greater good they were working for. The eventual control over and eradication of mutants.

8. Peter takes no damage in the middle of the blast. Just like Ted. Remember Ted has no healing power, yet he isn't hurt when he goes nuclear. It's because his power radiates out from him, and doesn't actually damage him.

i was under the impression the entire time that syler didnt have ANY powers, and thats why he became jealous and crazy and started stealing them, theyve yet to explain it.

Also i dont understand why they were so oh no we have to shoot peter when both claire and peter survive near deaths by just removing whatever is interrupting the brain from the spinal cord. They should have just shot him and moved him out, didnt seem hard at all. Also yes, i dont get why peter didnt just fly himself out, a lot of questions theyre probably expecting us to not question

Nope, Sylar has the basic power, hence the reason the doctor found him in the first place. His genetic code matched the mutant code.

The reason he became jealous is they couldn't figure out what his power was. It was after he killed that he finally found out.

And fuck spoilers at this point.

I dunno, the whole ending was just a whole lot of WTF to me. I wanted an x-men styled fight. All the gifted powers combine to fight Sylar but it just didnt happen. The whole what to do with peter as well just seemed retarded, there were soooo many obvious ways to have solved the situation but none of them seemed smart enough to think them up. Claire should have shot him, she knows he has her powers, they both know that they can survive just about anything, they just need to remove whatever object hits that certain part of the brain when it gets hit there.

yeah i didn't see the point in Peter telling Claire numerous times to shoot him if it was never going to happen. as far as that last fight goes, i expected it to be a letdown. their sfx were absolute garbage all season. hopefully they'll get a bigger budget.

the thing i don't get is how numerous times it was mentioned that season two would not be a direct continuity story and that we would have mostly new people. seems like with the success they pulled a 180 and did exactly what they said they weren't.

They did say that, but then Tim Krieg said they changed their minds because they had really taken to the current crop of characters. He said something like a week or two after the original line about the "not a direct continuation" thing was spread around. This was all 2/3 of the way through the 1st season.
