no idea. I was in this huge old pawn shop that has piles of random stuff. None of it organized. And poking out of this shitty old cardboard box, full of wires, old saw blades, screws and the like, was this little box that said "orange squeeze"
It was missing its back and the guy sold it to me for a buck. I went back and dug and found the back and a MXR micro amp.
Fuck man, I need to start hitting pawnshops again every once in a while. You probably have awesome ones around your way cause you aren't going to the city-slicker spots. The little rinky-dink ones are so much better cause Zeke doesn't know shit about vintage gear and sure as fuck ain't gonna check it out on them thar inter-whatevers. To him it's just a busted ass pile of shit that some dumbass might pick up for a buck. Nor do the rednecks cleaning out dead grandpa's attic know the value of the treasures they find. Everyone is stupid and gear collectors win.
I found a Moserite clone at a shithole around my way that they sold me for 5 bucks. Clone or not, it was in awesome condition and actually sounded ok, and any music store would have been selling it in their used dept for 100 bucks.
city pawn shops, most of the time, suck. You might find a good movie or game there. But even then, those jerks will probably charge too much. Like the Pawn Shops in Pensacola, on the coast in Florida, wanted like $12 for used dvds and $8 for a gen cart...yeah... and then there is just dumb luck. You have to be lucky enough to come in there at the right time to find that rare certain something.
Small towns are the best. They normally don't have an active music scene (or at least nothing like a city) so the only place to sale old gear is the pawn shop. So you got more weird crap showing up, and fewer people to buy it. And they normally price it better hoping to move it fast if it is hot. Plus lots of old people with cool stuff that either pawn it, or pass away and their retarded spoiled children pawn it.
College towns are hit and miss. you have to really know your shit to get a good deal there. Anything that big name people use, you are screwed. That stuff is going to fly out of stores or be over priced. But you can still sometimes get lucky and find cheap weird stuff. Frat boys won't touch a Japaneses fender squire, they don't know that a japenese fender is always made well. Frat boy doesn't want a little national/supro amp, they want a Marshall. But that is good for you and me. We know what those amps sound like with a humbucker in front of it and the volume on 7-10.
by the way, I'm looking for a Silvertone 1485 and a red airline like the one the white stripes uses. If anyone sees those at a website, craigslist or ebay, let me know.
edit: found one

anyone live near there that can pick it up for me? And how does craigslist work?
I don't know the difference between a 1484 and a 1485 but here's an 84 in Seattle: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/msg/778332252.html
There was one of those at the studio I used to work at. I should have stolen it.
Well somebody should have.
