Squier. Seriously. I've been playing for almost 20 years and the best bass I've ever played is a passive Squier P/J combo.

Squier eh? They have a ton of different types on their website, as a complete beginner to basses, I have no idea which would be a solid type to go for first. Precision, Jazz, Jaguar, Mustang, & Telecaster, are their any discernible difference between these style of basses that a beginner should look out for?
You should pick one that looks cool to you. Seriously. You can get into all the other bullshit in a couple years. Try them all out if you can.
Check out the Squier vintage modified stuff. Whatever you get budget in a visit to a quality guitar tech to get a proper setup. It makes a huge difference.
The "Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special" looks very nice.

Definitely going to look up some demo videos of it and add them to my list of possible buys, thanks for the heads up. Also been looking at this bass as well....

The Allen Woody Rumblekat by Epiphone.
Telecasters are classy. That one is a guitar though.
Haha! I just assumed everything on that page was a Bass for some odd reason. I'll keep that Modifed Jaguar Bass on my list though.
This one right here is the business. It has a smaller scale neck which is a plus in my book. It also looks sweet. If I had an excuse to get one of these I would, but I don't really play bass much anymore.
Welcome to tnl, btw. You found the one thread where we aren't all raging assholes.
I don't think so, but who knows. It's not like its guitar sized or anything.
