If you fall off you can restart from the last checkpoint, but the medal times aren't typically forgiving enough to allow you to fall off so you replay these short tracks a LOT to get them perfect.
The platform mode requires you to just complete the track in a certain number of retries (from checkpoints). Like having lives. Time doesn't matter.
The stunt mode is like Tony Hawk, kind of. You have a big, open-ended level with lots of ramps and shit and you drive like an asshole and try to do crazy jumps and flips to earn points before the time runs out.
There's also a puzzle mode that gives you a partially complete track and a certain number of pieces to use and you use the track editor to try to build a track that will allow you to complete the race in the shortest time possible (and then actually achieve that time, of course).
So yeah, none of the basic modes is really what you would think of as a competitive race mode. Even the online mode is more like playing for the best time, since you can't actually interact with the other cars (you pass right through them... Trackmania requires too much precision for it to work if you can bump each other).
Bought this last night. I planned on trying out one of the environments aside from stadium before going to sleep just once, and then 2 hours later realized I should really be going to sleep. I'm gonna be playing this years from now, I can say with confidence.
That video was a very specific type of custom course. It's designed to be completed simply by holding down the accelerator and NOT TURNING AT ALL. Pretty rad.Quote:
