doesn't matter. The state can't just start taking people's kids when normally the person would be a good parent. What if the parent had just then fallen on hard times? Maybe they will only be on the street for a while, like a week or a month? You can't just swoop in and take their kid in those situtations, or ever.

parents should have certain rights. They made the kid. The kid is their family and they should have a large say in how it is raised and what happens to it. Being on the street isn't like beaing raped, beaten or flat out neglected. Taking the kid away because it's life will suck when compared to everyone else's is bullshit. Whats next? Taking poor people's kids away? Then the lower middle classes?

No, we don't take poor people's kids away. We take poor people away. Fuck them, they're poor anyway. What are they gonna' do, sue us? It's not like they have the money to even try... I like how you guys are trying to let her off the hook becuase of desperation or depression or some shit. If she robbed a bank because she was homeless and hungry and killed twenty hostages in the process, would you still say we shouldn't give her such a hard time?

A human life is a human life. She killed someone and should be punished for it.

This seems a little fishy to me in that I've done work for a few homeless shelters, and not one that I have ever even heard of will allow someone that has been drinking in, period. There also tends to be strict regulations on any children staying there- in my experience they are required to have adequate facilities, such as a crib, and a place for them to be isolated from the other people staying there for their safety.

Being responsible for your actions has nothing to do with morals or values.

It's really sad that this happened, both to the child and the mother. That doesn't relieve the seriousness of the fact that she shouldn't have been out drinking, but there are far worse parents out there. It points to an underlying problem in that parents of children who are too young, like this girl, don't realize that their happiness (in this case, probably going out with friends and drinking) takes a back seat to the care of their children. She does deserve some sort of punishment for what she did, nothing excessively harsh, and hopefully her negligence will dawn on her in the future. I'm not saying she should be let off easily, because there has to be some sort of immediate consequence beyond saying, "Your baby is dead."

All of that being said, I'll be shocked if she doesn't have Sharpie eyebrows.

I would not argue with her being punished some. The problem I see is these posts where she should go to jail for the rest of her life.

I never said she should be in jail, I said she shouldn't take care of children. Why? Because a mom who lets her baby drown in vomit and cleaning solution is never going to be a good parent.

And to answer your earlier question: No I never fucked up so bad that someone died when I was 18.

lol Nice bullshit circular argument: "If she doesn't take responsibility, then no one can make her take responsibility, so it's not her fault." If she is not locked up, she may do the same thing again. You know, like why we lock murderers up. This is pretty fucking basic sense. This reminds me of a Dragnet episode where stoner parents left their infant daughter to drown in the tub while they got high in the living room. They got sent to prison, and this woman deserves it as well. Hopefully, she could use the time in prison to gain some clarity in her life, and figure out a way out of the current lifestyle that will just lead to her own early death.
