Yeah, that's total bullshit. I guess my BBB went through because it wasn't product related - three customer support people hung up on me mid-sentence, and the last one told me to fuck off before hanging up on me.
Believe or not, I was calm and not an asshole the whole time. And the funny thing was, the second person actually hung up on me when I said the first person hung up on me. All I wanted was to talk to someone about keeping a truck rental a week later than agreed, and the regional office was closed for some reason. For some reason, these people were in a bad mood that night.
Best Buy warranties only work if you make a scene or put up a big fight. I have a portable DVD player that I'm on #4 with. They are very fragile, btw. The first two times, I returned it and got a new one as soon as they couldn't power the old one on. The third was a different model and apparently they now couldn't just swap it. It went back for 'repairs' twice before I made such a big stink that they threw me a new one. (PROTIP: If you get one of these, try and find out the policy when it comes to repairs. Insignia brand portables are no question asked swaps last I checked.)
You know, I hate bearing down on people in retail because all this shit we go through isn't even remotely their fault... but sometimes you just get really frustrated and you have to be an ass just to get your due.
The dead pixel issue should have been an easy swap... I guess they might have had too many come in, which made the practice of swapping over a dead pixel too costly? And the worst thing is they can do that if you read their warranty jacket. It basically says 'We can change things at will, and there is shit you can do about it' (in nicer terms).
I was fine at first, I just went home after they said no three times and called a few higher-ups. I had remembered everyone's name involved so I was just trying to contact someone who may be able to override the store manager's call or at least tell they guy not to promise things to customers that he won't live up to. The second time I went into the BB with the letter from the BBB (hah) they still wouldn't even listen to me. I don't handle frustration well and it overwhelmed me. I wasn't an ass or anything, I just got too stressed and walked out really quickly. Now I know that if I want to make good on the warranty I bought I have to either give the item in question to my dog or deliberately create a new problem since they won't honor valid complaints.
In 1999 I think, I had an original iMac with a dead sound card and some monitor issue. CompUSA didn't have Apple techs there back then and didn't know what the hell to do with my computer. After 9 months of calling Apple and not really doing anything, they finally paid to have Apple pick it up. Five days later UPS delivered a brand-new iMac to my house, a better model than what I paid for. That was my best exchange scenario ever, I got one hell of a free upgrade.
The 10/16 Wrestling Observer arrived. I'm elated about it. Also, Ford BOLD MOVES! Racing and Valkyrie Profile 2 arrived for review.
