I'm curious as well. Especially since EGM reported months ago (in the Zelda/Revolution double cover feature) that VC games would be quote "cleaned up for progressive scan." Maybe they are only modifying video for N64 games?

Nintendo's poor handling of component cable availability also has me worried they will make the Wii composite only later as they did with the Cube. :sweat:

Played Wii sports with my GF today, did some co-op tennis, baseball, golf, bowling and boxing. She like Tennis and Bowling the best.

if you look through the FAQ on the Wii for the VC channel they say the update button is for when new versions of the game you all ready bought comes out, so say they clean up Zelda nes or something you'll get it for free. It makes one think they may be planning something in the future and with everything else just couldn't get them out for launch, but who knows.

Yeah I think it's just part of them being fucking stupid about cables, I have no idea why they wouldn't have them at launch, I can understand not including them (all though yeah I do think companies should just ship component/composite combo cables with systems now a days) but to not have them in stores for launch is fucking retarded.

Like I said though, for those who have their system right now, this is an inconvenience. But it'd be just plain criminal if in the HD age they release a cheaper produced Wii with composite only later.

Anyways, two more of my friends are getting the system this weekend, can't wait to try it.

I remember reading that a lot of the multiplayer VC games will have added online functions in the future (free if you already downloaded the game). I have to admit, finally getting to play Goldeneye online would be fun. Or the original Mario Kart. Or Contra games. So sexy.

So has anyone actually seen any extras in stores? Or heard anything about second shipments? I'm going to Italy next semester and I really don't want to have to wait until next summer to get a Wii.

I don't know if they'll go that far, remember there are S-Video cables for the system but it's kind of like why spend 25 - 30 bucks on S-video cables to just have to pay the same price to have component in a few weeks. Though them taking out component wouldn't be anything new for them. When they redid the NES to the top loader they took out composite support, when they redid the SNES they took out S-video Support, I think in Europe later model N64's lacked RGB, and as you know they took out component. Hopefully they don't do that with the Wii and in 4 years time when they would happen hopefully they'll release there are enough good tvs out there that they shouldn't do that. I really don't think they expect this kind of demand from the Component cables as evident from them selling out in like a day or 2 from just online and phone sales. Hopefully that teaches them though, *shrug we'll see I guess.

It's just so weird how they go head first and jump to the top of the tech ladder with WiFi built in but then when it comes to the video outputs they take an ehh what ever attitude towards it, I just don't get it. Which is so different from the attitude they had with the NES and SNES where both came with RF and Composite cables for the systems.

I really do hope that come next systems launch that everyone (MS, Sony, and Nintendo) either include Composite/Component combo cables or a set of HDMI and a set of composite cables with the system.
