Anyone else looking forward to this? It's out tomorrow, for a very reasonable $30 MSRP.
Or has the news of licensed western pop tracks killed everyone's interest? I'm a bit disappointed that a game as cool as Lumines, whose experience is very much defined by its fantastic musical atmosphere, is being tarnished by the likes of Gwen Stefani and the Black Eyed Peas, but hey. The original is one of my all time favorite games, and even with rape-time "enhancements," the 360 version is one of my favorite games for that system, too --arcade or otherwise. And at least some of the tracks look like good picks. I'll gladly take some New Order in my Lumines.
So yeah, the Hoobastank sucks, but there is still plenty to love for the erstwhile f-chan. Such as:
Heavenly Star (title track of the game, by the Genki Rockets, and perfect Lumines Jpop goodness)
Mizuguchi actually produced the song himself --the first he's ever done.
Also, Mondo Grosso is returning with new tracks made exclusively for Lumines II, along with a few other hand-picked Japanese musicians, and there will apparently be a massive amount of new content, including at least 60 new skins for the game.
Lumines, anyone?

What exactly is the difference between this, Lumines Live on the X360, and Lumines Plus on the PS2?
People make fun of the X360 version, but even now (with just the base and advance pack) it has as many skins as the PSP version did. I figure the other add-on packs (hurr) will bring that number up to the rough 60 that 2 is quoted to have.
(So while the package is presented horribly, the pricing is in-line with the other games in the series... I think.)

Lumines Plus is, I believe, just a straight port of the original Lumines. Lumines Live is essentially a very slim base pack of Lumines modes and skins --a mix of old and new-- with further packs that you have to buy to flesh out the game. Lumines II has much more content than the original or Live, along with new modes, and tweaks to the way the main gameplay feels. LII contains most of the new skins from Live, too, and is actually a cheaper total package.

Screw any other Lumines titles besides the ones on PSP.
This is going to be great.

Some of the western/UK artists like Beck and Fatboy Slim will gel nicely with Lumines. But I cringe at the thought of going from playing a level featuring a soothing track like Heavenly Star to an obnoxious blabbering MTV video from Missy Elliot, Gwen or Hoobastink.
To be fair though, Shake ya body was as irritatingly repetitive as a track such as say....Hollaback Girl.
Anyways, I doubt the unwanted videos will keep me from playing the game eventually and Beck + more Mondo Grosso = win. But portable budget wise, it's going to be tough to justify this one for a looooong time when I have two other Q games competing for my attention within the next few weeks (Every Extend Extra and Gunpey), not to mention Yoshi Island DS.
Speaking of Gunpey, IGN has two new previews each featuring 3 tracks from the game which you can download for free:
I want all 3 of the Q games. Time to dust off my PSP!

I'm a whore for Lumines (and god forbid I even paid $6 for Lumines Moibile [it sucks]) so I'll pick this up eventually, probably when it's cheap used or takes a price drop though. Too much other shit out this month that I want.
