Crows could be both カロウス or クロウス quite easily. The latter is the by far the more typical and accepted, but I have seen things like the former as well (albeit I will admit my students aren't the brightest apples of the bunch, so it may just be stupidity on their parts, so I will concede that much).

Yep, you know the japanese, always transcribing ラ as rou. :rolleyes: And how do you seem to be so certain Karous is pronounced カラス? Did I miss the pronunciation guide on the web page? I know quite well about the usage of English by the Japanese... much much better then you do, I can 100% guarantee that.

Because that's the kana for the title... And I don't think he was saying they transcribed ラ as rou, but rather rou as ラ. I'd love to shit on recap for this one, but I think he's right for once.

I just hopped over to the game page and read the story.

The main character's name is カラス which is word play on the fact that 烏 is Crow. Hence the black and feather motif on the character (well that and the fact that she's half angel).

So honestly I have to just shrug about the english letters and such. He could be right.

Although I still will laugh about how I'm horribly xenophobic. :lol:

Well as I said, my students aren't known to be the brightest in the ken, so it may just have been stupidity on their part. ;) I'm sure as hell not going to argue with them and tell them their japanese is wrong though. :) I've actually seen カローズ as well.

How long have you studied the language? Before I came to Japan I had studied just under three years and felt ok about my comprehension, but after my first week I realized I don't know shit. After a year here my skills are certainly improved, but when someone asks me if I speak Japanese I just say no. Saying you speak Japanese sounds like you're claiming full fluency, and until I can read a novel in a day, I'm not quite there.

I say I speak Japanese, but nah, I'm not at all fluent either, conversational yes, but not fluent. I'm probably at about the same level as you, same amount of study time that you had. But I'd say you're almost definitely better due to being immersed for longer then I though (I do have the bonus of virtually no one here that speaks English though, so that has done wonders for my conversational abiliby). I'd love to read novels, but my kanji comprehension is piss poor (which is going to be the thing that will probably keep me from passing 2級 this year) and I'm shitty as hell about studying them.

I'm with you on that first week shock though... jesus christ was that ever a surprise.
