There's no random battles, it's like Grandia where you see the enemy on the field before you encounter it. Being directed by Sakaguchi, I would expect a lot of FF themed moods and plot developments. With Uematsu also doing the soundtrack, you can expect a lot of spazzy guitar and keyboard solos, perhaps mixed with some wonky engrish lyrics.
