Are you complaining that the Wii - which launched yesterday and still has its entire life ahead of it to impress visually - sucks because it's not as powerful graphically as the other consoles? What has that got to do with anything? More powerful hardware and better visuals =/= market leadership. Gameplay means more to the average consumer than visuals, so I don't see how the Wii's supposed lack of visual prowess has any significance at all.

I'm "complaining" because people here and elsewhere are parroting Nintendo's PR bullshit about how "the Wii isn't about graphics" - and I'm saying that by the nature of the Wii being a videogame console, for the Wii to not be about graphics is factually impossible.

I have no idea how to put that more simply.

All of you people bringing up Gamerankings, market leadership, gameplay, "fun", and all sorts of other irrelevant shit are not comprehending this.

"About" graphics meaning the focal point of the console. Just as MS and Sony have pissing matches about true HD resolutions and poly counts, which shows in spades in just about all their press releases, Nintendo has instead STRESSED the important of interface and accessibility over graphical prowess, a strategy that, though you'll never admit, is working wonderfully for the DS.

Graphics are a - if not the - focal point in any home console, no matter what their respective manufacturers proclaim through their mouthpieces and PR statements.

When someone directs a movie that's "for fans, not for critics", it's still criticized and judged against all other cinema anyway, isn't it. Nintendo can say their system shouldn't be judged by graphics, but many people still do so, and why shouldn't they. By these all being videogames, the visual component is still paramount.

What's PS3's flagship title?

Not Nintendo's. When people see the Wii they don't look at the graphics they ask what the fuck you're holding and flailing around in the air. You're cramming everything in to one predefined set of rules because that's all there's really been so far. People just saying graphics aren't the focal point of Wii isn't what is making it the focal point. The fact that the controller takes center stage over the graphics when people see it does.

Maybe in 2 years it'll be a different story because the gimmick will wear off. But by then I expect the Wii to have some worthwhile entries in to this new control style to keep me preoccupied then, too (maybe not though, knowing Nintendo).

I think you're overestimating its importance. Graphics have never been enough of a focal point with consumers to decide the market leader consistently from one generation to another, and it's been proven time and time again that the console with the best graphics doesn't always win. Being that the case, who cares if the Wii isn't as powerful graphically as the others when it tries to do other things differently?

"Many people" doesn't equal the gaming masses, who are going to judge with their wallets, regardless of what the press and people on forums think. If the Wii provides an innovative and fun gameplay experience, then graphics are really going to mean dick to the general consumer.

Only by virtue of the fact that you need eyesight to play video games. Whether or not they need to be the bleeding edge of technology is certainly up to interpretation. You seem to think that if you must see it, it must always be the most important part of the experience.
