It doesn't work fine as intended, that's the problem. If you don't level properly you end up with stats to low against monsters that are too strong, and then have to adjust the difficulty bar.
Which I think is stupid. There should be no difficulty bar in an rpg, it should be properly balanced in the first place.
what is the games difficulty bar set to on default? cause i have not touched it and im 70 hours in with 2 more guilds left. The games proven a challenge for sure, but a welcomed one.
Normal is the default. Which is fine if you play focused on combat, but if you focus elsewhere you end up getting fucked.
i did destruction, conjuration, restoration, blade, sneak, and marksmanship (LOL in retrospect)
finishing mages guild and being able to enchant and make my own spells definately helped in the mana conservation. I made my elvan longsword have damage 15 on lightning and nice, and 10 on fire. I rape people now.
I used a bow and never died.
What is this shit about needing combat skills? I did everything in stealth and the game was so easy I got bored and stopped playing.
I should have moved up the difficulty slider actually.
You're some kind of freak. You can reach a point where you're tuff e nuff to hang with the enemies, but this game is hard as hell in some parts if you're not laden with awesome weapons and a ton of potions. Like, you were taking down 3 clanfears at a time with a bow in a narrow room? GTFO
Your points about this are almost absurd. If you aren't a high enough level to go to certain places then go slay some shit and come back to it. There are countless RPG's wherein you basically HAVE to be a certain level or you get creamed. Criticizing a title for offering you the puss-out option of making the game easier so your meak character can finish off a particular section doesn't make any sense.
I never changed the difficulty level at all and if I ran across enounters that were too powerful for me then I embarked on a sidequest until it was more feasible. In other RPG's, you have to wander around and slay randomly generated encounters until you're powerful enough. At least this game offers tons of sidequests that can fulfill that need and not bore the shit out of you with random encounters.
It would be neat if that were the case. If you aren't leveling properly, it's very possible to return to the same location 10 levels later and find it's even more difficult than it was before, due to the scaling enemies.
