Played Zero Gunner 1 (arcade ) this weekend
The Mom & Pop movie rental store round the corner from my house has a circulating collection of 3 arcade cabinets, and I had a serious double-take over the weekend.
The cabinet was for Virtua Fighter 3...with a Mortal Kombat 5 (or something) joystick/button setup....yet there were choppers on the screen wasting each other. I watched, surprised as the familiar Psikyo logo came up, and then...ZERO GUNNER.
In went the quarters.
It's a shame that the game was never released for the home, as far as I know. It's pretty cool, with an appealing grittiness that reminded me instantly of Strikers (no surprise there). You choose from a Cobra, Apache, or Gunship (aka Hokum?) and off you go to locales round the world, killing terrorists.
It wasn't nearly as sleek as ZG2 in terms of visuals or hectic gameplay, but was still very satisfying. Hopefully the bizarre cab will stay around for a while...I want a chance to credit feed.
Hmmm...wonder how much they'll sell me the machine? :)
