Alien vs. Predator 2

Bought this a little while ago for 5 bucks. Started playing it again last night. What I really love about it is (so far) it really nails the Alien ambiance. All the sound effects are ripped straight from the movie: the muffled discharge of the pulse rifle, the eerie ping of the motion detector, all the way down to the way the doors open. Very nice. It holds up pretty well, I think, for a 2003 game.

Does anyone (and by anyone, I don't mean just TNL) still play this online?

I have a feeling predators are horribly imba, though.

I never did play Alien Resurrection or the original Aliens vs. Predator on the PC (I’d love to hear some thoughts from anyone here that did), but Aliens vs. Predator 2 is still one of my favorite FPS experiences to date--the marine campaign in particular had such a scary atmosphere that I can remember having to take breaks every two or three levels just to disengage from the intensity of the game world. Multiplayer was also pretty fun in that game, especially the race-based team deathmatch mode; the best was when we'd get a greatly outnumbered squad of marines to go up against an abundance of Aliens--that shit was almost as intense as the single-player game with all those hissing/snarling Aliens darting around on walls and seemingly flying through the air to stab you with their insta-gib tail of death.

To sleeve: Have you checked out the online browser yet to see if there are even any servers still up? I might be interested in tracking-down a copy just for nostalgia's sake if the price is right.

No, but I will. AvP2 is damn cheap; I got my copy for $5, and paid another $5 for the expansion (which I haven't even touched yet).

The expansion was widely slammed as being a fine example of shovelware, but I haven't played it myself, so do let us know if it's at all worthwhile.

This game is by Monolith, yes? (Shogo, NOLF, Tron 2.0, Condemned) I've always been a fan, but I think I missed the boat on this one. It prolly looks all boxy and horrid at this point. I saw it at Fry's not too long ago. Maybe I shoulda purchased...

My local used bookstore, also known as The Best Used Bookstore Known to Man, where just last night I picked up a boxed copy of Grim Fandango for $8.
