I think the rape stuff is a whole other issue that most people in the US can't relate to, like ever. We are talking about something our ancestors grew out of, what, 4000 years ago? When was the last time rape was cool? The vikings? Pirates? Cavemen? Whenever it was, it was a long fucking time ago.

We could make an entire thread about this, but the Japanese have had a very different concept of love and women than us for a very long time. European country's had pagan religions that normally had the female playing an importent role. Later Christianity, though oppressive to women, gave some amount of respect to the "clean" or "virgin" females. There was also all that shit about courtly love and romance, that though limiting in the roles women could play, at least gave them some amount of love and admiration.

japan from what from I've been told, had very little of that, ever. It's only recently (past 60 years) that they have started to indulge in romances and/or stories where women play strong roles.

(I might be full of shit on this though. This is just what I've been told by people who have supposedly read up on this. Shidoshi or bbobb will have to correct me.)

I think the japanese are just more open and brazen about it, so we notice it. Not becuase americans have socially evolved to the point that young women aren't attractive until their 21.

there is a very distinct difference between the two. The girls you describe have went to great lengths to appear the age that American men find attractive (around 21). While the Japanese are churning out hentai books that do everything they can to make girls look younger and younger. One is trying to present children as adults and the other adults as children.

But maybe I'm missing something. Maybe back in the 70s men passed around little doodles of naked peppy long stockings and the girl from bed knobs and broom sticks.
