You can go ahead Dyne, I'll take the next cycle if you don't mind.
My buddy makes the most killer Mojito I've ever had, so I'm tracking that recipe down. Funny, it's another minty drink. Edit: Fuck, I thought that was a Mojito recipe. Stole my damn thunder.
I used to like Hoegarden and other white beers (Heifefizeeessfeifzen) but I dunno, I really don't like them now
I make mojitos all the time. Tip, use spiced rum instead of white rum. I also always throw in way more mint than they say, otherwise you really don't get the mintyness of a good mojito. One of the hardest things to get right is the amount of sugar. Sometimes I hit it just right but I still miss with a batch now and then. If you are making a big batch you want to whip up some simple syrup, which is just equal parts sugar and water dissolved in a pan on the stove. It's way easier than mixing the sugar into the cold drink. Most recipies call for it this way too.
Your recipe is wierd Dyne. I never had a mojito that didn't have the mint leaves in the glass. I have a muddler that I use. The first step is to muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice in the glass, then add ice, followed by rum, syrup, and soda.
Fat Tire is a good beer. Right now I'm having Karl Strauss Red Trolley. Some good local stuff.
I don't like Dyne's Mojito recipe. The mint leaves should be crushed in the bottom of the glass along with the sugar and a slice or two of lime (none of this lime juice bullshit, use real limes). Then the ice goes on top, and the rum and soda water are added, although I'd go with more rum and less soda water.
bbobb is right.
Mojitos require the mint, sugar, water, and limes being muddled together. Then add the ice, rum, and soda water.
But seriously, whoever doesn't live in FL and is drinking mojitos in January is fucked up.
A good mojito is probably my favorite cocktail, though i'm more of a beer/wine/shots man.
