I dunno, seemed like the characters themselves had the basic jist of what was going on by the end.
But I do agree that something much more meaningful could've been done with the Desmondverse. I really liked the stories they did with it over the course of the season.
E: ^^^ The Sawyer/Miles buddy cop thing could be pretty amusing. They'd be constantly trying to catch Desmond, who would don various disguises in order to get close to Ben and punch his lights out. And run over Locke.
His getaway car would have a license plate that would read NT PNYS BOT.

Man, I wish I just watched season 6. The ending would have been alright if I only saw this season.
I think I liked the ending, it was better than I thought it was going to be. I knew most stuff wasn't going to be answered. I mean really, how can you really explain what the light source is when a few seasons ago someone used it by turning a donkey wheel in a cave wall to steer an island through time and space? Would there be anything reasonable to that?
I don't get the hang up on Walt, he's been gone for 3 seasons. He got off the island and never came back because in the end he was just a kid. Dharma thought he special and he wasn't. They let him leave. People really thought they'd write him in after all this time? They showed him years after getting of the island last season, his story was done. Half the time it was just his dad screaming after him. Michael had a bigger impact on the island than Walt ever did.
In the end I think Dharma was just man trying to figure out WTF the island was and how it worked. Someone way back when found it and set up shop to research it. They're there for years building that whole facility and didn't figure it out in the end. The pregnancy stuff? Not sure what caused it, but it was a problem for Dharma. You have a whole live in community that you want to be sustained for years and all of the women die if they get pregnant? Can't put that little tidbit in the recruitment broucher, you want to fix that. Juliet was brought there to try and figure that one out and she ends up meeting Sawyer...etc.
In the end they went with less of why and how the island is there and more what did these characters do from being brought to the island of Crazy Shit. Obviously the show is really scatterbrained, but fuck, that wasn't new. Creative way of looking at what happens after death.

I just finished watching this on my DVR, after a 13 hour night shift. I'll watch it again to see if I've really missed out on clues that might sway my view on what I'd just seen.
The ending was okay. The final season kept throwing on more questions than answers so it kept my expectations low since I knew they weren't going to explain most stuff. I still really enjoyed the series even if early on I hoped its explanations were closer to science than magic.
This is the thought in my office this morning as well. I can't see how people are coming to that. Seems like they spelled it out pretty clearly that the island was real and the flash-sideways was purgatory. They went as far as to continuously cut to Jack dieing (on the island from the knife wound) as Jack's father tells him that he his dead. "You're dead, Jack. Look, right here is a scene of you dieing. And now you're hear in dead land. Because you died over there in real land. Look, here you are dieing again to hammer it home."Quote:
