I'm trying to help out a friend by fixing her copy of Shining Force. I'm pretty sure the battery inside the cartridge is dead, as the saves keep on getting erased.
So, I opened the thing up to poke around and I think the battery is attached to the little latch.
I think this has been asked before, but I searched for it and could not find anything on it. So, is it possible to replace this battery without killing the game?
just make sure its the same battery of course. my old manager at babbges changed SNES battery's all the time.
Hmm, what's the best way of getting the battery out? I think I could easily snap or twist the latch to the point of not being able to work.
if you have one i would use an xacto knife...you know the art kind with the small blades and wedge it under the battery and flick it out. course if the plastic breaks you could just get a piece of electrical tape to hold it in place.
You could desolder out the battery assembly, mounts and all, and solder in a new assembly (they can be found online) or a receptacle that will allow the battery to be replaced more easily (likewise). Or, you could use the messy method, and just pry the mounts off the battery casing with a sharp knifetip or something similar, and then secure a new battery in between the mounts somehow. Just don't try soldering the mounts directly to the new battery...soldering irons and batteries don't mix.
It's really too bad Sega doesn't offer a battery-replacement service like Nintendo still does (or do they?).

Eh, me and soldering irons don't mix so I don't think I'll be going down that road.
Is there any type of conductive glue that would work?
