Finally, the long awaited Sega Ages version of Galaxy Force II has a release date. Mark your calendars for July 26th.
That Saturn version is a 30 FPS letdown- I know, 30 FPS isn't that bad- but that's slow compared to the arcade. The PS2 one should do the arcade game justice at 60 FPS, and hopefully there will be support for the Ace Combat joystick.

I understand they needed to iron out Model 2 to PS2 problems they encountered from that port of VF2 or whatever, but damn.

I think the same team of hacks who raped Saturn GFII worked on the Saturn Power Drift conversion also. On Saturn, GFII's frame rate is even choppier than Power Drift's IIRC.
Galaxy Force is an amazing game. I do wish Sega would grasp the concept of a fucking retro compilation and start banging out some US discs with 15-20 arcade games on them or something Taito/Midway-style.
It can't be any worse than the Genesis hack job.

The 'Y Board' had three MC68000 CPUs @ 12.5 MHz each, and a small fraction of the sprite performance of Saturn. Saturn Galaxy Force II doesn't even seem to hold a constant 30fps. I have not played Saturn Power Drift but I do have Dreamcast Power Drift contained in Yu Suzuki Game Works volume 1, it's 60fps.
Rutubo Games made 99.9% accurate ports of Space Harrier, OutRun and AfterBurner II for Saturn -- Actually I'll take OutRun on Saturn over the arcade version just for the ability to run the Saturn version at 60fps, which although makes the racing seem slower, is much smoother. I assumed that Rutubo Games had also done Saturn Galaxy Force II but it turned out that was not the case.
MAME is the best way to play Galaxy Force II until we see if the PS2 version is done right.
Damn, and here I was about to shell out for the import Saturn version. I just hope the Sega Ages version isn't dissapointing like the Space Harrier turned out to be...

Strike Fighter is actually a lot faster (and better looking/playing) than the junk home port entitled After Burner III. The FM Towns version of AB III plays OK, but it lacks terrain detail.
I'm glad CRI didn't attempt Power Drift. Considering they raped GFII and Turbo Out Run, that could've been the ultimate clusterfuck of the millenium.
