Planet Harriers pretty, but tough as nails...

I Finally found a Planet Harriers setup at Arcade today and gave it some intensive playtime today. The game is so beautiful and gives you a great sense of depth. You actually sit in seat with speakers blasting behind you totally getting you into the game. If your at all familar with the Orignal Space Harrier you should be able to get right into it. From the start there are 4 different characters to choose from, and best of al it is a co-op game so you and a friend can play alongside each other with linked arcade units. Luckily the game only was 2 tokens to start and 1 to continue. I got to the fourth level on about $6.00. The bosses are huge and are sometimes vauge about where the weakpoints are but to see this game in action is impressive.My favorite part of the game is the Star Shops where you spend al you aquired money to but more hearts or heart capsules even shields. The game even has a lock on feature with fuel to assist you.Also 3 bomb clearing attacks.

For you old skool SEGA fans Oopa Opa makes an appearance evertime you die.

It's too bad that the original Space Harrier is way better.

I was pretty disappointed with PH. It's pretty to look at but I don't think it does justice to Space Harrier or Fantasy Zone.

The trick is to know what to buy in the Star Shop, which all depends on how you play. I personally go for the extra lock-on fuel and always extra hearts. Also, if you see a Shield, make sure you get it, they are great for concentrating on getting more gold without having to worry about enemy fire. The bosses can indeed be perplexing sometimes, but are incredibly cool regardless. I love Foreo's boss. :)

And I had no idea that Opa Opa made a cameo! That's too cool... I think it's time that a new Fantasy Zone game game out, possibly on GBA. Maybe they can resurrect "Space Fantasy Zone" too.

I played the Space Fantasy Zone beta on emulator and it's pretty good, especially considering it wasn't developed by Sega. It's too bad it was cancelled.

I am a big fan of Space Harrier. And when I played Planet Harriers I was a bit thrown off. It does not really play like Space at all. Its too 3D, and the controlls are WAY to stiff and slow. Not fast enough, but the enemys are way fast. All the star stuff and shops was odd as well. Its a good game, but its a big step away from Space Harriers.

Also Korian I am just curious, did you play Planet Harriers at the "Arcade" in the 4th floor of the Mall of America?

Damn, I really am dissapointed in the PH backlash. I think the control is fairly intuitive and not clunky at all. The action is VERY fast (like Sonic running at full speed-fast) and the controls keep up with the action, as long as you pay attention to what's on screen. The powerups (extra health, shields, larger targeting cursors, hell, even an extra credit) make the game easier, so it's in your best interest to kill as many enemies at once (yielding the largest cash total) and collect enough money to buy items at the shop.

There are 5 levels in the game, the 5th level being the most spectactular-looking.
