Back sometime in 1990, after saving up for a while, I purchased a Genesis. Man, I thought I was living on the bleeding edge of technology after playing the NES for so long. "Arcade graphics have finally arrived home"!. A few weeks after purchasing the Genesis, and while still mesmerized at its "arcade-like graphics", Video Power (when it was still a game showcase and review show, and not a contestant gameshow) did a feature on the Neo-Geo. My jaw dropped at the images that were shown on the screen. "Woah, I have to get me one of those RIGHT NOW!" I exclaimed. When the price of the console and cartridges were anounced, I almost cried. My cutting-edge Genesis didn't look so cutting edge anymore.
I was such a stupid kid.
I'm sad to say that to this very day, I have never seen a Neo*Geo console IRL.
I'm gonna drive out to Yoshi's just to see it (And do his wife)
Besides the Xbox (which I have well over 100+ games for) the Neo Geo is my favorite system of all time. I remember first playing one at a local Pizza Hut. It was a cocktail 2-Slot MVS (a model I've never seen since) and it was loaded up with 8-Man and one of the World Heroes games. Later on they added some classics like Samurai Shodown 2, King of the Monsters 1 and 2, and eventually the one that made me fall in love with SNK: The King of Fighters.
I never went the AES route because of how insanely expensive it can be, but I do have everything else: A consolized MVS 2-slot, NGPC, and a Neo Cd (that I have for some of it's exclusives and it's awesome controller)
I still play it like crazy and probably always will. :link:
That bad, yosh?
As somone else said...long overdue yet sad for the fact that there isnt something to really take its place currently.
