Ive been reading and watching interviews and developers arent too eager to go into the games for windows intitutive because of so many restrictions (ex: mods) and forced support for Windows LIVE.

GFW doesn't force you to support Live.

Steam is going to be so awesome when they finish the matchmaking system. Well, it'll be more awesome.

It's technically possible, I'm sure, but Microsoft is very cagey about cross-platform play. As much as I wish otherwise, I doubt they'd allow the functionality in anything not included in Games for Windows.
