Analyst: Take-Two Unfairly Singled Out

The controversy over Manhunt 2 has really swelled this week, following bans, an AO rating, and the game being temporarily suspended. But is Take-Two unfairly in the cross hairs? If you ask some analysts, the answer is yes.

Also, I'm getting a bit tired of defending Take Two. It's no secret I'm not a fan of their games, but I've always defended them in the face of political controversy. But their games aren't getting better (arguably worse). Meanwhile, they keep causing trouble for the industry, presumably for their own publicity--'CAUSE THERE'S CERTAINLY NO ART TO WHAT THEY'RE PRODUCING.

I've liked most of the GTAs and two out of three Midnight Clubs. That's a pretty good percentage when compared to most companies, especially seeing as Rockstar really doesn't put out that many games.

Heh. Manhunt is arguably their most meaningful game to date (well, apart from Bully). It was sick and disgusting and made the player disturbed at their own actions. And that was the whole point of the game - to horrify the player. Most survival "horror" games rely on jump-out-and-go-boo scares. Manhunt caused the player scare himself.

Maybe that's what you got out of it but I don't think that was the intention. I think the intention was to have a bunch of 16 year old boys go "You can power drill a dude's head? Awesome, I need to buy that game!"

Then it's obvious you didn't play the game.

I'm sure some played it for the reason you stated, but its effect on me was exactly as bVork said.
