Did it have the part with the portrait of a woman sitting on the steps where her nipples were bleeding and her teeth were razorsharp? Because that was the first time a story ever gave me a chill down my spine, perfectly imagining that scene. If that's not in there this movie isn't worth a shit.

Saw this the other day but wasn't scary in any way. Sam Jackson is a nice little treat in it though as he continues to make up for starring in The Man.

I don't know why there were ghosts jumping around everywhere when there weren't any in the story and they specifically say there were no ghosts in the room in the story AND the movie. I don't understand knife bitch. I don't know why more of the story imagery wasn't used. There were tons of really great special effects that were just misused and misdirected. The room wasn't nearly hostile enough, not enough of the story stuff was there. Also Sam Jackson was completely miscast. (If they needed a black man, why not Morgan Freeman for chrissake?)
Despite all that, I liked the backstory, and little bits of the movie were neat, along with John Cusack being good. It in no way captures the experience of the short story though. I'd give it 2.5/4
