You know in the old days, when something like this happened, the British would find out where these people were from (village wise) and kill everyone there, period and make it VERY public. But thats generally my problem with Iraq, we too politically correct to wage a proper total war against the resistance. And generally this is why i'm against war, to wage an effective war you practically have to commit genocide once you get into urban combat unless the local population supports you overwhelmingly from the start. Very few goals could possibly justify this level of warfare in my mind. Defensive wars like the world wars (defending our allies) and police actions against an aggressor work well because you do not have to engage in local urban warfare with a hostile local populace. You don't need to wipe out populations to really pacify the area.
