I set up a question in Sega's Support section of their website asking if they have plans to patch the game. Here are the three bugs that are simply dumb.
Quote:
1) If a player logs onto an online battle as Player 2, then the game assumes the controls of whatever is configured for Player 2 on the user's machine. The workaround is to set the button config for both players in the Settings menu, but this is a serious usability oversight. The game should assume Player 1 control's when going online, regardless of whether they play on Player 1 or Player 2's side.
2) Fighters are not penalized for quitting early. People are able to maintain their "good" record by quitting a match before their opponent wins their third round. It makes the leaderboards meaningless because people can cheat to stay on the top of the leaderboards. This can be fixed in the following manner.
a) automatically award fighters a loss if they quit a match (and the Xbox 360 servers have the ability to determine that via its TrueSkill system)
b) reset leaderboards after this patch so that everyone starts on equal, non-cheating footing
c) not necessarily, but it would improve the leaderboard system significantly. Leaderboards should not be determined by who has the best win/loss ratio, but instead by a rating system similar to chess. Puzzle Fighter on XBLA implemented a similar system, and it should be one Sega should strongly consider to improve the VF5 ranking system.
3) Allow character and stage select in private matches. It is a huge oversight that Sega does not allow players to change their fighters in a private match (without quitting the session). Every other online fighting game allows this option (including Dead or Alive 4), so it's mind-boggling why Sega removed this option.
If character select cannot be implemented, then at least configure the online match so that fighters fight in different stages (if Random was selected) when they decide to fight again. It gets tiring to fight in the same arena over and over again if two players decide to keep fighting against each other.
These are good points. not being able to switch your characters after a rematch is really stupid too.
Good games earlier, Dipstick. Is Aoi your main? I haven't seen many of her around.
Oddly enough, not being able to switch characters doesn't really bother me. Not to say that it is not a dumb UI oversight, but just saying. You also have to keep in mind that in Japan, it's extremely rare for players to switch characters on a whim -- and you aren't allowed to do so at all in tournaments. That's probably the mentality AM2 had when creating the online interface.
Yeah, she is. There aren't very many because she's fairly meta-reliant and lacks insane damage output. You have to be either really dedicated or really weeaboo to play her. You can guess which side I fall on. :bang:
I mostly just play with one dude myself, but it's still stupid to not at least give us the option to change characters without having to restart the game.
Weeman we should play sometime. I am no good though.
I'm free for the day; if you want to play soon just say so.
Yeah. I'm just using Pai exclusively right now. Makes it easier for people to know when I'm playing, too. If you see my Gamertag online and Pai is being used, it's probably me playing. If it's Vanessa or Eileen, they'll be my nephew or brother, respectively.
