I just picked up this book.

It covers everything from the formation of The Marufuku Company (later to be known as Nintendo) to Xbox.
This book covers EVERYTHING to do with videogaming. And it's good to see that the PC gaming scene is FULLY covered as well. And not just a footnote.
It's in full, glossy color. About 300 pages long too.
I'll go as far as to call this book the current "bible" of video games.
I plan on getting it.
It should go nicely with my other gaming history books: Phoenix, The Ultimate History of Video Games and Game Over.
I agree. Though I do not own it yet, I've spent many hours at my local B&N reading it. :)
And I was quite happy to see PC games were in there. That nice big MYST reproduction inside the cover warmed my heart. :)

I really hope Chapters gets some more copies of this book because I don't want to have to order it from the States.
I wanted to also say that this book seems to be written from the perspective of the game scene in the US. Which is fine and perfectly normal. But that should give you all a heads up on the heavy PC coverage.
It's a good book, and the PC coverage is excellent.
Nevertheless, there are a number of stupid factual errors. Listing Soul Calibur as a PSone game (alongside a DC screenshot), and describing Atari arcade games like Peter Packrat and Cyberball as "unreleased prototypes" are among the more galling errors.
It also states that VF 3 was on Saturn, which is wrong. page 282.
I'll have to stop by the bookstore and pick up a copy. How much did it cost, Jeff?

Shameful.
