I wouldn't be too concerned about the price difference between premium gas and normal gas--it's almost always only a $.20 difference, which on a tank of gas is a difference of about $3-4. If you fill up even as frequently as once per week (I don't exactly get great mileage and I can still go about a week and a half between fill-ups), three bucks per week to drive the car you really want is pretty inconsequential.
This is probably totally irrelevant to you, but since you suggested the Scion tC I'll throw it out there--if it were my money and I was looking for a car around $25k, I'd get a Mustang GT. If you get it at a time with good incentives (4th of July is usually real good), you can get a new one for about $23,000. It's a fun, great-looking car with personality and plenty of power. But if four doors and good gas mileage are what you want, it ain't the car for you.
