Both of these games have caught my interest as of late (Well since I've scored a PSX and SotN for $22 yesterday) Elemental Gearbolt was a game I always wanted to give a try when I had a PSX about 4 years back, but never did, not I cannot find it for the life of me. As for Valkyrie Profile, it sounds like a RPG thats not of the norm and has some cool effects and whatnot that makes it play-able for me.
Anyone have impressions for either of these games, or a place I can get them for semi-cheap? :D
You picked two of the most artistically beautiful games ever. I have only begun playing Valkyrie so I can't comment much on it but it's certainly nice to look at, especially the handdrawn stuff in it.
Gearbolt is probably the best gun game ever made. Awesome artwork, an excellent soundtrack, anime cutscenes, and most of all it's just fun.
Yeah, I really enjoy the art that I saw on Valkyrie Profile and Gearbolt had art I really liked as well. As for the music, thats one of the biggest things that makes me lean towards liking a game or not, wether that be good or bad.
Oh, and semi-cheap means like 20 for VP and 15 for EG :evil:

Ok, new question, there's a GunCon 2 at the local EB for $15, will that work on a normal PSX or is it only PSX -> PS2 compatibility?
I've only played Valkyrie Profile for about four hours but I can see why everyone is so effusive about it. Original and very fun.
Valkyrie Profile is without a doubt the best console RPG I have ever played.
Everything about the title just screams originality. The story is based on a radical revision of Norse mythology, with lots of interesting twists and turns. The heroine of the game, Lenneth Valkyrie, is totally different from your typical RPG hero(ine): through much of the game she is cold, efficient, and pitiless, a mere servant of the gods...until the later chapters of the game, when her past reveals itself. Not only is the story fantastic, but the gameplay is fast, addictive, and fun. There are also three different endings. The best ending, or the "A ending", is the most brilliant and satisfying ending I have seen in a console RPG. Overall, a must-buy.
Elemental Gearbolt is also quite unique. The graphics are gorgeous, and the music is quite nice. One of the better gun games I've played.
Out of the two, however, I would buy Valkyrie Profile first.

Really, that's all you need to know. They are both absolutly incredible games, and help C:SotN and Xenogears to represent some of the greatest games the PS has to offer. I love both of these games to death, and refuse to give them up. Also, Elemental Gearbolt has quite possibly the greatest looking instruction manual known to a US game (aside from the hardcover Lunar book, of course).Quote:

What was rather funny is that I'm the VP freak around my house, and yet a roomie busted out with, "It shall be engraved upon your soul!" during a Vampire Savior match the other day. I smacked him with a Demon Contract for stealing my lines that I rightfully stole in the first place.

ok when does the story in Valkyrie Profile start to get good now? i'm near the end of Chapter 3 (Cave of Oblivian) and so far i'm kinda bored witht the story. i haven't played it in a couple days too. the fighting and stuff is cool though.
Wait till Chapter 4. It picks up once you visit the Tower of Lezard Valeth.Quote:
