They're not even legal then in the case of cartridge games.

In all cases, yes.
As for Alien Soldier. You can get the far superior version, along with Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy and a shit ton of extras (including the versions of each game released in every region and graphic mode options designed for current TV's) for $29.
Or you can pay $9 for a non-enhanced ROM dump on VC.
Display modes aside, I'm not sure how superior the one in the Treasure Box is - M2 handled that port AND is responsible for the Genesis emulation on Wii VC. But if you have the ability to play imports, the cool extras in the Sega Ages 2500 compilations make them a far better choice than the rom dumps on Wii VC.
By the way, which version is the one on Wii VC? JP or PAL?

Also if you look in the Trade Forum, Shooting Love has a used one that he's looking to sell so you could get it even cheaper.
VISUAL SHOCK!
... by Yoshi, no less. :)
I'm definitely buying VC Alien Solider.
I never wanted to dish out the cash for the cart and don't really care about the Treasure Box because I already own the carts of the other games.
Mario Bros. 3 made me turn on my Wii and add some Wii Points. Ended up with Super Metroid, too, and seriously considering Ninja Gaiden 2.
I played an Alien Soldier ROM on my Dreamcast a number of years ago--I remember it being balls-busting hard, which isn't necessarily bad thing but with my attention span this time of year kinda is.
I would buy AS but after my lone purchase of S&P I had 800 points left, conveniently not enough for it. So I bought Ninja Gaiden 2 instead. As soon as they give me a fourth game I would purchase - and they don't fuck with the prices yet again just to be assholes about it - I'll add points and buy it.
My Wii has been glowing with ecstatic joy that it finally got turned on again, so I guess now I have to turn it on again at some point to make it stop that.
