I'm used to american joysticks, so I know I'll be happy with an octagonal gate. I just figured since it's not actually a sanwa joystick, either gate might work with a little bit of tweaking.
The thing that bugs me about square gates, aside from the effect on circular motions, is that the diagonals have longer throw than the orthogonals. It just feels weird to me.
Maybe I should just replace the stick with one of these.

I modded my Fighting Stick EX2 today. It now has an octagonal gate and a white bat handle.
It handles much better now, and I can finally pull off a standing SPD most of the time.
I think I'm still better with a pad, but that's probably because I've been using them almost exclusively for over a decade and have let my stick skills deteriorate.

I've got one of the HORI Wii Fight Sticks right now, but I've got mixed feelings about it. I noticed that SNK released a clone of the Neo Geo AES stick for the Wii in Japan, and I was curious if anyone has tried it out? That should work with a US Wii/remote, right? I'm thinking that it might be worth the sixty bucks.
What exactly are you using a fighting stick on the Wii for? Guilty Gear? VC games?
