So essentially from what I'm reading the far right, and religious conservatives ruined any hopes of this election for McCain. If he didn't have to pander to their majority ignorant asses he would have been able to grab someone like Lieberman who would have secured a huge deal of the voters he lost on, I'd probably have voted for McCain with that pick.
Fiscal conservatives will win, and I don't think the battle will be relatively long. Republicans will still pander to social conservatives but they'll frame it more defensively to avoid alienating independents. Sort of like how Obama is worshipped by gay rights groups even though he opposes gay marriage. Republicans will talk romantically about being pro-life while quietly opposing bans of abortion.Quote:

In what way? I was in JROTC in high school and there were similar requirements for that. Not a very big deal.
The government doesn't have the right to mandate that private citizens must perform community service, any more than they have the right to mandate that private citizens must donate to charity. It's a gross violation of civil liberties.Quote:

I think that it's a good idea, but would prefer it to be a state issue.
Edit: Maybe the government can't mandate it, but can the school system? I already have other required gen-ed classes in reading and writing. Shit, I would love taking a semester building houses for Habitat for Humanity. Maybe have these classes tuition-free (or at a reduced rate) or something.
