Did the PC gaming market suffer after 1983? No.
Did the arcade market suffer after 1983? No.
Did the market in any country other than the US for videogame consoles suffer after 1983? No.
Those are the facts.
Your turn.
What was blowing the doors off the market on the PC side in 83?
To what degree did the NES craze infact feed IN to the arcade market?
Who gives a shit about Europe, ever?
Just remember that one large selling point for the NES was that the home version of Super Mario Bros. was so close to its arcade counterpart. People wanted to play the arcade game at home, not the other way around - therefore, they were interested in the arcade game first.
When did the Master System come out in Japan? Oh yeah, 1983. When there was this giant fucking crash, right?
A large selling point for the NES was seeing it hooked up at someone else's house and playing SMB. It didn't even need the arcade cabinet after the first unit was hooked up to a home television.
How many people were even aware of the arcade version after the NES started snowballing?
Enough that games were made for the Play-Choice 10 until 1991.
Which is the example of the NES market feeding the arcade market.
Which is the example of the market being there the entire time and not going away after 1983.
I'm sure if you look at numbers, and feel free, the height of the arcade market coorelates to the height of the NES market. The arcades didn't popularize the NES, but rather, the NES brought more people into gaming, and therefore, arcades.
Final Fantasy IX (PSone)
Everything about this game just felt like fan-pandering after everyone cried about there being "too much technology and not enough fantasy" in the previous couple Final Fantasy titles. It made me wary of any title in a series that is said to be "returning the series to its roots."
Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid was a bit outlandish, but it blended gameplay and cinematics well enough for me to still find it thoroughly enjoyable. I was hoping that the sequel would be even better. Instead, "a bit outlandish" turned into "completely stupid non-sense," resulting in me skipping Metal Gear Solid 3 and not caring about Metal Gear Solid 4.
Beyond Good & Evil (Multi-platform)
I love this game, but the inverted X-axis control for the camera peeved me throughout the entire game. It's left a lasting impression of the game for me. When someone mentions this game, instead of thinking, "Beyond Good & Evil. Yeah, what a great game," I think, "Fuck that inverted X-axis bullshit."
NBA 2K3 (Multi-platform)
Stop fuckin' tipping the ball and start catching it! I haven't touched an NBA 2K game since, despite hearing good things about later games in the series.
Most Nintendo Games (Nintendo systems)
"ZOMG! Greatest game evar!" "Miyamoto = genius!" "Nintendo cares about gameplay over grafix!" "So innovative!" "So glad they delayed it for half a century to polish it!" "What?! You gave it an 8?! Fuckyouburninhellmotherfuckeryouknownothingaboutvideogames!"
