Suikoden II is one of the greatest rpgs ever. It still kicks the shit out stuff like Mass Effect or Blue Dragon or whatever marketing-budget-of-the-week people are getting excited about. In fact, it might have been the last great rpg of the 2D era. Seriously, go finish it. I did more than once. There are a lot of cool elements in that game, and some great characters.

Holy shit, really? I sold mine years ago for like $60. It deserves that kind of premium if any game does though. Konami should release the PSP version of I&II in English...if Sony will let them.

I think it's best to just not worry about getting everything on your first play through.

For all games in general, really. Some characters are really hard to get(Leon in part 1 in particular) but collecting characters is part of the game, they shouldn't have to set it up so that you can find everyone on your first try. Plus those characters usually don't have much of a role beyond appearing in the scene where you collect them and then standing around your base, so the game doesn't change too much if you miss out.

I pretty much put a full weekend into Suikoden I, and absolutely loved it. Then tried to go immediately into Suikoden II and so I guess you could say I was burned out, because I got bored fairly into the game. So it's one of those games I've been meaning to go back and give a shot now, and I may put off Suikoden V until I beat Suikoden II but meh, I got as much excitement out of Suikoden one seeing characters from Suikoden III in it than I would have vice versa so I guess it doesn't matter.

Also I forgot about Geddoe but his crew was fairly awesome too. I really feel that game is underrated.

I would second that, and definitely reccomend playing through II before V. It really is THAT good. I don't think II is over rated at all. Cus if you play through V you might be burnt out again and STILL not play through II. Which is a crime.

EDIT: Actually I was thinking, I think Luca Blight, the antagonist of II, is THE greatest villain in any jRPG ever. IMO. Sorry to derail this thread and turn it into Suikoden II.

You can't bring up Suikoden without praising II. You didn't derail the thread. You brought it to fruition!

Ugh, but I was getting so excited about Suikoden V. I'll do exactly what happened with The Longest Journey. I thought to myself "I should go back and play the first one before this." then never got around to it. So now I haven't played either >.<

I'm ashamed to say I still haven't played III, despite buying it years ago around its release. I need to get to that, among other games.

There is no urgency to play 3. Sounds like V is probably a better game to play.
