Yes you do. Fed and State taxes. It's bullshit, really.

One of my professors is a Freegan. He's a pretty ridiculous hippie but I think he's kind of badass too. http://ucsdguardian.org/index.php?op...=9516&Itemid=3
If you go through the entire 6 months without ever putting in effort to try and find a way out, without doing anything, hell without wanting to do anything as stated, you're probably making more than you put in (I guess it depends on how long you worked at a place). I most certainly don't have half my salary lost each paycheck to the government or my company, so I'm not sure how getting half your salary for 6 months is "Getting back what was yours"
Freegans sound awesome
It's not half your salary, it's capped at $400 regardless of your salary.

The federal tax is set by the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA), and is equal to 0.8 percent of the first $7,000 paid annually to each employee. This tax is regressive; since most workers earn more than $7,000 per year, most workers are effectively paying the same flat tax of $56 per year regardless of income. The percentage of overall wages paid in FUTA taxes on behalf of high-wage workers is therefore much lower than for low-wage workers.
It really doesn't sound like a lot of your taxes go specifically to this, so I guess you also mean the taxes you pay to the government to actually fund the govt and not the unemployment insurance. So correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds highly unlikely that you will ever pay as much as you can make off unemployment without working, well at one place all your life (In which case fuck that company for ever firing you).
I'd like to hear other numbers about how much you're paying for unemployment insurance, so how much money is actually going to pay for "Getting back what you paid for"
FUTA taxes? Fitting name.
I at least agree with him on Social Security. My grandmother is trying to live on it and I think she's going to die, to be honest, because she can't afford good food and such. She's completely ruined family relations though so nobody will help her (she wouldn't take it anyway).
I'm not really down with milking unemployment but I see why he would. It doesn't make me that angry.
if you're wasting your time on unemployment just to leech the living shit out of it, then F-OFF. Shit, i was unemployed for 10 months and before i was laid off i went through 2 jobs and i still didn't qualify for that crap.
