While this is true - the idea that Capcom had 3 titles readily available for public consumption AFTER the first game took off into "holy christ everyone actually likes this?" improbability due to these games being japanese GBA titles was actually a GOOD thing. In turn, we didn't have to wait for sequels, and one could see how well the series would pan out in the states.
We found that each game was fairly similar - but as long as the story and characters(which are the focus, since this is a digital comic/point n click [insert stylus joke here]) were fresh and entertaining or engrossing, that nobody cared. So while the core gameplay (lol) mechanics haven't been massively overhauled(until now, that is) in the past versions, there was never a reason to do so given the nature of the game itself.
in the end - all you've done so far is bitched about a series for no real reason. this title is actually moving away from the standard digital comic representation of the series as a whole, and should be applauded as such - as let's be honest, this is only the second DS "Ace Attorney" title that was actually developed ON the DS.
btw: Jap timeframes don't matter to me much either - except for that god damned earth defense force sequel that hit in europe on PS2 that I can't play.
This series got tired after 2 for me, but I like the idea of being the prosecutor so I might actually pick this up.
2 was the slowest of the series. You should seriously give 3 a shot. I hear it's amazing.
Three of which are almost exact ports of existing GBA games. This thread is going in circles.
