Started playing this earlier this week, and it is awesome. It is such a fundamental change in SRPG to run THRU an enemy instead of parking next to them. I was getting my ass kicked in one of the early missions and finally devised a better strategy to beat it. Great game.
Battles are brisk so there is minimal frustration even in starting over.

You also retain all gained EXP with the Retry option which eases some of the sting that comes starting over.Quote:

Given, they know they're broken and they revel in just how broken they are as evidenced by the end-game bosses that require hours upon hours of mundane power-leveling, but the novelty of doing LOL 200000000 HIT POINTS has long since worn off. The Intelligent Systems games are the antithesis of this. There are no rules that allow you to grind -- Advance Wars doesn't even have any stats that carry over from one map to the next. The characters are defined and rigid, and they way they mesh with the maps is so meticulously calculated and leaves such little room for error that, like Strider said, they become puzzle pieces. These are for players who like spending a ton of time figuring out what the solutions to those puzzles are.
Rondo is where these two opposing approaches to SRPG design meet. You can spend as much time as you want with the Retry option to the point where your characters do LOL damage, or you can spend that time trying to figure out one of the very, very few ways to clear a map without grinding. Or you can play in between: go into battle without the intent of grinding and use Retry as a fallback if you're about to fail, making your next attempt a little easier.

Well Disgaea DS is my first time fiddling with Nippon Ichi's stuff and so far I'm having a blast with it. Even though it's not very user friendly and I keep thinking I'm doing it wrong. At this point though it's a toss up for me atleast for Turn Based Strategy Game of the Year.
Like ARBM said, Disgaea was fun when it came out years ago. Now it is just kinda meh. Very little strategy involved, you can grind or figure out easy ways to powerlevel your way to insane levels and breeze through the main game.
Rondo is very refreshing and definitely one of the top 5 DS games this year.
Okay, seems a few of you played this. I have loved the crap out of this game up until Level 30. Holy crap.
It's the kill Serdic with Altrius stage. I CANNOT get this crap. I've been trying to employ the strategy of get Altrius into position for a level 3 OB, survive a slaughter, and hit the boss with Ansom once to get him around half health. I got insanely lucky and Altrius lived to use his OB, and Serdic survived with 40 health. It's making me outright insane. I've failed so many times and I'm too high level (all-around level 40 for most everyone) so I don't want to grind more. Is there any sane way to do this? If I try to take it slow, that last slaughter just wipes me out. You can't provoke them down and run back to survive.
I want to throw the game away right now.
I restarted the whole game, trying to kill everyone in the first stage instead of running away. It is tough.
