LOL...so I FINALLY got Rez...

While cruisin' Best Buy today for my friend's graduation present I happened upon the last copy of Rez for PS2, which seems to be fairly hard to find and sought after and I've been keeping my eye out for it lately because of this. So when I saw that last brand new copy I snatched it up (feeling lucky as all hell) and raced home. Only had a chance to play it for a little bit but wow, this game truly is immersive...I LOVE the Tempest series (so I knew I'd love this) and this feels almost like a spin-off of it or something, I'm really loving it so far, but I dunno, five levels seems kinda short (I only had to time to play a bit through level 2), even if there ARE different ways to play through them. I'm used to the fifty+ levels of Tempest, but otherwise, I really like this game and now I can sorta see why all the past discussion about it here. If there's one thing I've heard it's "level 5 man...level 5", or "screw level 5, I actually like level 4 better!". I will have to see for myself.

True the game is short, and that is a shame. Really though, scoring 100% on all levels is the ionly way to get the full enjoyment. It also opens up plenty of new options.

Wow, I hear nothing but praise for this game on these boards, I find that so weird.

I think it's a good buy if you got a deal on it, but honestly, I feel like I'm the only one who found this game a little boring. Now, I love what they did with the graphics, but other than that, I'm not sure what's so great about it. Also, I thought there was supposed to be some revolutionary interaction between the gameplay and music; the only thing I noticed was that the shots you fire are released on the beat, and not necessarily when you fire it. Eh. Plus, the whole 5 levels things sorta makes the whole trip through "eyecandyland" seem a little unfulfilling.

Still, I think it's great as an art piece, and I'd pick up too (I just rented it) if I found it cheap for the graphics and sound alone.

Rez perfectly filled the vector-graphics void in modern gaming. It's pretty much an early '80's style 3d shooter done with modern graphics so it isn't as revolutionary as people say. I still love it.

cool...what kind of options are these? And by 100%, you don't mean 100% shootdown ALSO do you?? Cuz damn, that's like...crazy hard. =/ I got like 99% shootdown on just level 1!

Diff color schemes, the option to start at any form, the option to be one of those aliens from Space Channel 5, 2 extra levels, different views and stuff like that. Yes you'll need to get 100% shotdown in some levels but the main way to unlock stuff is to play that mode where you start from level 1 and it just keeps going till you finish the game(This mode really made me tired of fighting the bosses). There's also 3 or 4 endings(They're all kind alame but the best possible ending does make you feel pretty good). All in all, an excellent game btw.

score attack and direct assualt modes are much harder, and because of the multiplier playing for score is a real challenge, so the game does have some meat.

But I admit the normal difficulty game is very easy and simple. This is very much intentional, I think. Rez is meant to be played on drugs. There have been drug influenced games before, but Rez is the only game that I really feel was designed specifically to be played while under the influence. Just look at the trancemission! What more proof do yo need?

Yeah, I just got this game for the Dreamcast, thanks to a very kind soul (you know who you are). And even though this game is really good, I don't think it lives up to the hype. But how could it, with constant cries of:

"OMG!!!111 LEVEL 5! *Splooge*"

resounding through these boards, I was expecting some kind of mind warping, life altering experience.

Instead I got Panzer Dragoon with a twist.


Oh well, it's still a cool game, though.

heh ya, I knew it couldn't hope to match the TNL hype, but hey...trippy Tempest 2000 style visuals swirled with Panzer Dragoon gameplay? Sign me up! I'm a big big big fan of BOTH series.

This game seems to reflect more towards TRON than Tempest for me. The first level boss is so much like the MCP in TRON. Even the wire framed buildings and mountains, are like those worlds found in the movie TRON. Great game.
