...positioning and seeing the other guy first is like, a core skill of fps's.
Even back to games like CS, Day of Defeat, even fucking Quake III style games, if you see the guy first and you have enough skill to make the shot, you get the kill. I'm not really sure how you criticize that in an FPS.
Are you saying that all the guns are easy to shoot, unlike say Day of Defeat where you had to really manage the specific weapon you had, and manage the recoil and crap? Are you trying to say that because it's on a console you can't turn fast enough to duplicate your PC skills? Does it ruin your precision shooting? What are you trying to say?
In Halo, which I know you're all about, the person who sees the other guy first almost ALWAYS gets the kill, but I suppose there aren't a bunch of weapons in CoD that can get you out of a jam or dominate people. It's not a map control style FPS. I mean, there are two styles of FPS: the Quake III weapon/map control style where the key to victory is often learning the location and timing of powerful weapon spawns, and then there are the more realistic ones (if you can call them that) in which positioning and awareness are always huge factors.

Cow, that might be true in AR start games. That's not what I play. I don't like Halo 3 on default settings either.
Obviously positioning and shooting the other guy first in any game means you usually get the kill. You damn well should. But, for example, an M16 with stopping power kills with one shot to the foot, and most other guns aren't too far behind. Anybody can do that and in most situations it's impossible to outshoot someone that gets the first shot on you. That's not how it is with the BR in H3. Furthermore, teamshooting is a core element of team play in H3 that I enjoy. In COD4, it's pretty much everyone is assigned one area to look over and you never really weaken your opponents for teammates to finish off. Also, because of the shield system in Halo style games, there are subtle nuances in positioning such as moving to the left at top lift on Guardian if you're shooting a guy at snipe 3 so that guys at elbow/snipe 2 can't get shots on you. This isn't nearly as important in COD4 since, again, it doesn't take much to kill you (especially with the element of lucky headshots) and you can shoot through cover.
Also, COD4 deathmatch is retarded. It's ok if you're bored and you just want to roll bad players all day, but against decent competition it's a huge campfest. Basically, it turns into one team getting a 6+ kill advantage and waiting the timer out. The objectives are fun though, except Headquarters.

I <3 the M16.
Anyway Halo 3 feels like arm wrestling or fucking playing some kind of flight sim where you need to keep a missile lock on some asshole's head for a second or two. You are right though, Call of Duty has very few actual shootouts. I still don't think anything out there hit the sweet spot when CS was in its prime. CoD 4 does remind me a lot of Day of Defeat, so I dig on it, but every fucking rifle is like a fully auto Kar98 before the nerf. So I kind of get what you're saying, but I prefer that lean to the Halo lean.

Pssst... headshots don't count if shields are up and most guns can't get headshots anyway. :p
Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy COD4 too. The COD4 beta was my first time playing a COD game and I didn't really like it back then since I thought it was all too random, but I got used to it and it's good fun. Thing is, for me personally, the gameplay isn't so compelling that I would ever play it without having fun people to play it with.

BR's don't do more damage when they hit you in the head with or without shields in Halo 3? Didn't they in Halo 2? My favorite gun in Halo 3 is the goddamn Needler anyway.
-
The BR gets headshots, but headshots don't do extra damage when shields are still up. So a BR is a 4 shot kill if you aim perfectly, but it doesn't make a difference if you go 4 headshots or 3 body then the last one a headshot.

Anyone else get into the beta? From what I've played its good, but if you dont like Cod 4 you wont like this since it damn near the same but WW 2.
Attack dogs kick ass. Hilarious to see and hear dogs running around the maps attacking people. Loud Yipes when you hear them get shot. Mortar strikes looks really cool.
Graphics are very very nice. The trainyard map especially. Looks straight outta the movie Enemy at the Gates. 2 other nice Japanese levels. One is moonlit near a beach with waves rolling in. The other is a castle with cherry blossums. Lots and lots of places to hide in all the maps. Thats going to take some getting use to since bitches are everywhere.
Sound is good from what I've heard. The German theme music from Indiana Jones Last Crusade plays when you win as a Nazi.
Guns are pretty cool, but take some getting use to. No RPD rape found yet, even though the Bar seems pretty close.
Anyways, so far it doesnt suck!

My bro got the beta (as well as the beta for End War). Looks like it plays exactly like CoD4 but with the added bonus of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) doing voice over
-
Watched my buddy play the beta, looks good.
The guys are the same size, FUCK!

Weird that you think it's pretty much the same game, Moogle. I read that all of the guns have significant recoil now, at the least.
