There is an achievement system but it seems to be game-specific. Not Windows Live. I think you can actually get more achievements in the PC version vs. console.
I still haven't read the Eurogamer review but I'm not so sure about trusting them for RPG information. The 7 for The Witcher is a crime.

My strategy or lack thereof with this has paid off. I procrastinated so long that the preorder bonuses are gone, so now I don't want to pay full price. Considering when I would actually get around to playing this, I probably made the right "choice."
Possibly Yoshi! Not like it's multiplayer so you can enjoy it whenever the hell you want.

This is everything I could want in an RPG. The story seems entertaining in a basic high fantasy sort of way, the roleplaying elements are typically great BioWare stuff (though without the usual morality scale, which I think is a good thing since it makes you consider the consequences more than you would in either KOTOR or Mass Effect), and the combat is tactically satisfying. That Eurogamer review is on crack, but I have ignored everything they've said about RPGs since they complained that Mass Effect had too much talking and not enough shooting.
It is too bad that reviewers apparently aren't bright enough to start messing around with the tactics screen. While some of the fault lies with BioWare for some, uh, questionable default tactical scripts, there is nothing preventing you from fixing the way your party members behave so that they don't do things that you don't want them to do. Speaking of the combat controls, I simply have no idea how this would possibly work on console, unless they actually have an onscreen cursor that lets you position your individual party members. Positioning really does matter in this game, and it matters more than any BioWare game post-BG2.
