Really?, is there all that much hype for SonicCD?
I've only encountered a few people that rank SonicCD over a Genesis instalment.
Personally I found SonicCD to be my favorite; after the original, because of the mission based exploration. The game retained the simple play mechanics of the first, without introducing any new equipment for Sonic. The addition of time travel required that players became familiar with the cluttered levels, so that a proper section could be utilized to get up to warp speed. After extensive play a sure fire 'speed pocket' could be found in every level; such as being juggled by a verticle conveyor or rebounded by two opposing bumper jets. After all the exploration that is required to get to the Past and Future, find MetalSonic, and the other Robotnic contraption in every level the levels are familiar enough that they no longer seem obstructed at all- at least I don't recall them seeming cluttered.
Like Super Mario Brothers, there is so much to strive for in discovering the levels of SonicCD. I was satisfied to think I'd seen it all after playing it regularly for months after release. Maybe 3 years ago I played through and got misdirected in the underwater Past level, a current pushed me through a wall and I made it to a room with a statue that began to shower coins onto the floor. Though I can't play it today with a broken SegaCD, SonicCD has always offered me simple pick-up and play gaming while providing challenge and interest enough to continue to want to find more within the levels.
is there a point?!, you're kidding!Quote:
Here's a tip the manual doesn't bother explaining, though: You need to destroy both a big machine AND a hologram of Metal Sonic in each "past" zone. THEN you can go to the future of the zone to see the "good" future rather than the "bad" one.
Is there a point to doing this? Doesn't seem to be. :/
That is the point of the whole game- Destroy the big machine to save the future. The best ending is your reward of course.
I recall the real trick is that the holo-MetalSonic will disapear if you destroy the big machine first. So a champ player must know the levels well enough to get the holo-MetalSonic before the big machine.
And in the underwater level, the easiest warp to the past drops you right on top of the bigmachine- so if you're using that route, I suggest try finding another.
