We are currently experiencing Nintendo's darkest hour.
SNES was by far the best, with everything from the Super Adventure Island games to the (only) port of Killer Instinct, shit like R-Type and Gradius, Final Fight and Sim City, Final Fantasy III (or 6 if you're an asshole), ChronoTrigger, Earthbound, Battletoads VS DoubleDragon, and let us not forget MarioPaint. Hell I'd give it the nod on SMW and Yoshi's Island alone.
There was also a game called Stunt Race FX which, at the time, was the absolute shit.
THE CARS HAD EYES!!!!
No, Stunt Race was in fact absolute shit because it ran at 3 fps.
also we are talking about first party stuff
SNES by a fucking longshot. Very popular at the time, a good variety of software across many genres. Or maybe I'm just looking at the past through rose-colored glasses.
One of the few times where I'll agree with you. That's also why SNES was such a great system.Quote:
None of the above. Third parties always completely carried Nintendo, which is why the N64 and GameCube went to shit.
Yoshi's Island is my favorite game of all time. Also,
at #3.
GBA or NES for number 2 is a harder choice. NES had a a string of good titles, but GBA had Wario Ware, which is #5 on my all-time favorite list.
Stunt Race FX indeed ran fairly slow, as far as SNES games went, but it was an awesome game and proved worthy of several rentals back in the day, and a worthy purchase complete for $10 while working at the GC. Playing it today is much worse than in yesteryear, but that's because I've been jaded by all the new stuff. I remember putting hours upon hours into that game and being completely happy with the outcome. FX chip ftw.
Vortex.
edit: lol at the vote for virtual boy.
When I played Stunt Race FX for the first time in 1995 or whenever it was new, I was shocked to discover that it was possible for Nintendo to make a thoroughly bad game in all measurable accounts. Bad graphics, bad sound, bad gameplay - there was not a single good thing about Stunt Race FX, then or now. It is easily the worst Nintendo game I've played and possibly (barring some obscure import or something) the worst console game they have ever made.
I voted NES. The flagship series have better entries on SNES but on the whole, the NES era was when Nintendo made the most games and was the most experimental with their software and the hardware behind it.
snes. i had a hard time deciding between that and gba. it was cool to be able to take some of my fave classic nes/snes series and play them on the go.
If we're talking about first-party developed/published stuff only, it's SNES. I don't even know how anyone can argue against that. It's only a real debate with the NES if we include third-party.
P.S. - Stunt Race FX was awesome back in the day. It had a steep learning curve, but once you got the hang of it, it was a great little racer. It's probably unplayable now, but I had a lot of fun with at the time.
SNES for me.
