2009 Awards Season

I don't see the problem. Animation is a medium, not a genre.

And considering that the vast majority of feature-length animation is trash, including the films in the general awards can only elevate the medium.

The category exists precisely because these movies will never get a fair shake otherwise. Same for foreign language films, which have often been deserving of standing with the best of Hollywood but which never, ever get nominated for those categories.
