How would you define "new material"? Given the game, I think the updated visuals and audio qualify. Then there's the online viewing mode that wasn't in the original. But whatever. 5. Call of Duty: World at War - The flame thrower rocks, and it's great to pick up the Panzershreck again. Sometimes it's hard to resist shooting a PS rocket into a group of German infantry, watching them get tossed around like ragdolls and/or ripped apart. Fighting against the Japanese army helps mix things up a little, especially with their tendency to use "Banzai" attacks.
6. KOF'98 Ultimate Match (PS2) - What is probably the best KOF game gets even better.
7. Ketsui Death Label (DS) - It may be just a boss rush, but it's still good on a portable. You can take on Doom anytime you want.
8. Raiden Fighters Aces (360) - All three Raiden Fighters games on one disc, finally.
9. Rez HD (360) - It's good on PS2 and amazing on the 360 in HD.
10. 007: Quantum of Solace - A bit on the easy side, but still a good 007 game which does a decent job of merging both Casino Royale & QoS into one title.
1. Space Invaders Extreme DS/ PSP- by virtue of hours played my GOTY. Top notch audio-visual design with a nice set of revisions to the mechanics.
2. LittleBigPlanet PS3- Barely scratched the surface in the brief 6-7 hours played. I could see putting in so many more and buying a PS3 for this.
3. De Blob Wii- First introduction to this game was a glitchy trailer over a year ago, looked decent. Watched an official trailer 6 months ago complete with farting and lowered my expectations. The final product is far more polished, one of the most endearing platformers out there visually, and a sugary approach to the concept of revolution.
4. Fantasy Zone 2 PS2- Criminally overlooked, don't believe any game has been resurrected so late and so perfectly in tune to the original.
5. No More Heroes Wii- Repetitive as hell yet the Wii controls never got old. Diverse soundtrack, a cast of unforgettable characters, and dumpster diving for tee-shirts. Can't wait for the sequel.
6. Castlevania: OoE DS- Same formula, nearly tweaked to perfection. The villagers were a much more interesting support cast than previous games, items and abilities were hard-earned instead of dropped here and there to avoid player boredom. The enemy designer produced a motley cast of great looking and dangerous adversaries.
Honorable mentions: Professor Layton DS, The World Ends with You DS, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift PS3

The reason being that everything out on 360 is in HD, so it opens the doors for all these rehashes.
I would define new material as something on the level of content. Rez HD doesn't have a stitch of significant new content.

I'm more behind than I thought. My list will probably look much different when I'm caught up but what the hell, I'll make one...
1. Fallout 3 - I felt this game was too easy on the default setting I played on but besides that it's awesome. It has a great sense of freedom, and Bethesda did a great job making a wasteland a varied place to explore.
2. Dead Space - Like Frog said, survival horror is still alive. This managed to feel like a mix of some of best elements of horror games of the past while adding new concepts to the genre (like the zero gravity stuff) to keep it fresh.
3. Fantasy Zone II - An excellent remake. It's kind of like what Nintendo did with Metroid: Zero Mission. They made a borderline new game using an engine of a more advanced game in the series to keep the classic look and feel.
4. Bionic Commando Rearmed - Like FZ2, it's a remake that feels new and surpasses the original. I would prefer handdrawn over polygons but it still looks great.
5. Grand Theft Auto IV - It may not have lived up to the media's hype machine, and it doesn't revolutionize accessible sandbox gaming like GTA3 did but it's still a damn good game.
6. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Like GTA4, it's familiar but it's an improvement on one of the best party games ever, particularly in the adventure mode which is actually a solid platformer of sorts this time. Having Sonic rocks, too.
7. A Vampyre Story - TNL is sadly ignoring this. At least play the demo and comment on it. It's not the top of the adventure genre but it's closer in quality and style to LucasArts classics than most today. Just beware that the main character's high pitched voice and fake French accent take some getting used to.
8. Tomb Raider: Underworld - Not as ambitious in design as I had hoped but still a well crafted action-adventure like the previous Crystal Dynamics TR games were.
9. Iji - I made a thread on this before and not many people replied. It's FREEWARE you bastards so try it. http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php It's an ugly game that could benefit from professional artists but the gameplay stands out for me. I always wanted someone to attempt System Shock 2/Deus Ex style upgrade choices in a 2d platformer and this is the first that I know of.
10. No More Heroes - Flawed by having its city roaming being underdeveloped but it's a neat beat 'em up with trademark fucked up Suda 51 style you either love or hate.

Prince of Persia - Thanks for taking a beautiful game and dumbing down the challenge to arthritic grandma levels and making the combat stiffer than a 13 year old on viagra. And please throw in collectathon crap. Gamers, especially in 2008, love that.
Biggest WTF?/Game that only I bought -
Agni: Queen of Darkness - So my most anticipated PS2 release of 2001 (The Lost) gets cancelled and resurfaces altered on PC in 2008 in India of all places. And it's actually a decent game for the $13 it cost me. I wrote a review that's on TNL a while back if anyone's interested.
My most played genre in 2008 was actually rhythm games for the first time ever although I was playing mostly pre-2008 releases.
