Gears matters. Nothing else does.
Until the ICO team makes something on the scale of SOTC, PS3 doesn't matter.
"We're two-and-a-half years into a ten-year cycle. "
I hope they don't seriously believe this. MS will eat them if Sony holds out on a console that long.
How did the guy doing the interview not Lawl in Reeve's face when he said this?Quote:
You talked about people going into stores - I've heard people in GAME say, "But this one's got Home. I've heard of that, I'll buy that." I don't know how many people buy PS3 because of Home, but I'd like to think it's a lot.
How do you figure? MS has no incentive to start a new generation, and Sony has the more powerful console. Microsoft is in an interesting position. They have an advantage, but it's a grenade they better throw before it explodes in their hand. The 360's exclusives were a complete embarrassment in 2008, and 2009 looks worse.
I assume MS won't go more than 6 or 7 years this gen. If Sony goes 10 MS has 3 or 4 years to entrench a next next gen console that will have way better graphics than PS3. Even now, for how much more powerful PS3 is than 360 you'd never know it by looking at the games. Sony will put themselves in another hole if they are launching 2+ years after.
10 year plan doesn't mean 'no system for 10 years'. The PS2 has a 10 year plan, but the PS3 is already here.
Still, however, I don't think we'll see new consoles for a while. People are spending a lot of money making games for the real systems as it is. I don't think any publisher would be too thrilled to start again in 2 years and make the costs go that much higher. Especially since most poeple are content buying shovelware for a system not much more advanced than a PS2.
eh, i don't read the word cycle that way, but maybe you're right.
How so? 360 has the single best exclusive in 2008 in Gears 2 (even though I agree it is not as good as the first after extensive play). Banjo & Kazooie is a solid platformer and some prefer it over LBP (but LBP has better legs with all the DLC). I wasn't crazy about Fable 2 but that's still a good action RPG. There are also Geometry Wars RE2, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Viva Pinata 2, that's a pretty solid exclusive lineup. You might prefer PS3's (MGS4, LBP, Disgaea 3, Valkyria Profile, MLB 08, Resistance 2) but it is certainly not an embarrassment.
The problem for Sony is that people are buying 3rd party titles on the 360 over PS3. I know I do that because of Live and I prefer the 360 controller over the dualshock 3.
